Description
Fun phonics activities including color by sound worksheets and phonics board games to practice reading the R Controlled (Bossy R) Vowels AR (car, jar) OR (or, for, porch) ER (herd, verb) IR (bird, first) and UR (hurt, surf).
These games and activities are great for literacy centers, small groups, one-to-one tutoring, interventions, early finishers or to send home with home learning packs.

Walk & Read Game: R Controlled Vowels
9 versions of the game Walk & Read are included. Black & white versions are also included, making 18 sheets in total.
Games include words with the following letters/sounds:
- ar
- or
- er
- ir
- ur
- mixed practice - ur, ar, or
- mixed practice - er, ir, ur
- mixed practice - er, ar, or
- mixed practice- er, ir, ar, or, ur
Playing the Game:
You will need one game piece per player and one die. All players begin at the start. Players take turns rolling the die and moving their token along the path. The player must read the word he/she lands on. (**Extension** Each player must us the word in a sentence.)
If a player lands on a space with an arrow, follow the arrow’s path and read the words at the beginning and end of the arrow. The first player to the finish wins! (To extend game play, you may decide that the winning player must roll the exact number to enter the finish space.)
Color by Code - Bossy R - Fruity Fun Theme
This product includes color by code sheets focusing on R controlled vowels (Bossy R) and includes words with ar, or, ir, er, ur.
Use the coloring code to color the picture. Encourage learners to read each word aloud while coloring.
There are 5 color by code sheets with the following letters/sounds:
- strawberry : ar, or, ir, er, ur
- pineapple: ar, or, ir, er, ur
- watermelon: ar, or, ir, er, ur
- strawberry punch: ar, or, ir, er, ur
- grapes: ar, or, ir, er, ur
5 sheets of answer keys are also included (making 10 pages total).
**A second set of sheets are included with the UK / Australian spelling of the word ‘colour’ (making 10 additional pages)
