Description
This is an introductory unit for physics. This unit covers:
- Basic physics skills (measurement, scientific notation, significant figures, etc.)
- Motion in one dimension (kinematic equations)
- Free fall/gravity (constant gravitational acceleration, basics of general relativity)
Content for this unit is based around PowerPoint lecture slides that have been beautifully animated and contain speaker notes to guide you through each slide's content. The PowerPoint lecture notes also indicate when the included quiz, practice assignments, and projects may be completed. A review game and summative assessment are also included. Answer keys are typed and show step-by-step work for calculations. It is intended that students have access to practice assignment keys while working, however this access is optional. This unit can stand alone or be used as the first chapter of the year-long course "Physics with a Modern Touch" which is available as a bundle. Learning objectives for this unit are listed below.
Physics Skills Learning Objectives:
1. Describe physics.
2. Describe how physicists use the scientific method.
3. Take good measurements.
4. Utilize scientific notation.
5. Identify and use SI units in measurements and calculations.
6. Use position v. time graphs.
7. Define average velocity.
8. Use velocity v. time graphs.
9. Define acceleration.
10. Create acceleration v. time graphs.
11. Understand free fall.
12. Understand General Relativity.
