Description
This is an activity for Pi Day, where students can discover and better understand where Pi comes from.
This file has the stations cutout that you will need for the activity and a guide as to how to run the activity. Students will use Oreos, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and an empty cup (to be filled with a goody that is of a circular shape of your choice - i.e. skittles, fruit loops, m&ms) to understand the definition of Pi. A fourth optional, challenge station is provided - determining the volume of a Pringles can.
Set up three/ four stations. Students can be divided into stations. Each student should pick up a quarter circle cut out at each station. Students determine the information for each box on the quarter circle. Students attach their quarter circle to their plate when they finish working at each station.
Students should be given roughly 8 minutes a station.
(24 minutes total)
Hand out Reflection quarter circle to each student. Students work on answering the questions on the quarter circle and reflect on what they learned. Allow students around 3 minutes to fill in the information. Reflect as a class for closure.

I usually do a food measuring activity on pi day anyway but liked the way this was organized. Glad I purchased this activity to change it up a bit.
Fun activity for pi day celebration
Kids liked this- especially the edible component.
The students completed this in a 40 minute period and ate lots of treats throughout! They were motivated and engaged and learning--exactly what I hoped for. Thank you.
