Description

Introduce your students to multi-step arithmetic problems with these Pick Your Path Multi-Step Math Mazes. These no-prep differentiated printables provide independent practice of multi-digit addition and subtraction.

To move through the maze, students must answer a series of addition and subtraction questions, using the answers to each question and the information provided to move to the next step of the maze. Some of the steps have two or more paths to continue along, allowing students to choose the questions they complete.

Included in this unit are 9 printables and full answer keys. The printables are differentiated as follows:

  • Pick Your Path Multi-Step Math Maze #1, #2, #3 – Addition and subtraction within 10, 000
  • Pick Your Path Multi-Step Math Maze #4, #5, #6 – Addition and subtraction within 100, 000
  • Pick Your Path Multi-Step Math Maze #7, #8, #9 – Addition and subtraction within one million

How do the math mazes work?

  • Step 1: Provide each student with a maze that matches their independent ability level.
  • Step 2: Students use the number provided in the START box and the information in one of the next step arrows to correctly write and complete their first question.
  • Step 3: Students use the answer to the first question and the information in one of the next step arrows to continue in the maze.
  • Step 4: Students continue through the maze, choosing their own path, until they reach the FINISH box. If their answer does not match the number at the finish, they must retrace their steps, correcting any errors
  • CHALLENGE: To provide students with an extra challenge, give them specific parameters to complete the maze. For example, challenge them to complete the maze in a specific number of questions, an even/odd amount of questions, or the longest/shortest route.

NOTE: As many of the steps have two or more paths to choose from, students can complete the printable in many different ways. This also allows students to complete the same printable multiple different times, challenging themselves to complete it in different ways.

These worksheets could be provided to fast finishers for independent practice, placed in a math center, or sent home as homework.

Thank you and enjoy!
