Complete math unit for teaching Common Core standard 3.MD.3- making and reading pictographs and bar graphs.

This unit covers the following pictograph and bar graph concepts:

Reading Bar Graphs:

-what a bar graph is and why we use them

-reading the title and labels of a bar graph

-understanding a bar graph scale

-interpreting bar graphs when the scale is other than one

-reading and understanding 'half' bars in a bar graph

-finding how many in each category

-strategies for answering addition and subtraction questions based on the bar graph data

Making Bar Graphs:

-making a six category bar graph

-making a single scale (one square equals one data point) bar graph

-making a bar graph with other scales (one square equals two votes)

-labeling bar graphs

-aligning the columns in a bar graph
