Solve word problems involving place value concepts such as: writing numbers in word form, standard form and expanded form, comparing whole numbers, and rounding and ordering whole numbers up to the hundred thousands! Students also must communicate their thinking and steps through both oral and written language which easily lends itself to the Common Core Standards!

This packet includes Depth and Complexity frames, organizers, and even task cards for further practice with place value concepts. Students will also have the opportunity to work together collaboratively, or work independently as the choice is solely up to the teacher. Instructions for cooperative learning structures are included should you want to go that route.

Think the problem is too difficult or too easy? Not a problem! Various fill-in-the-blank organizers and frames are also included in this packet. This allows the teacher to be able to change the numerical amounts as well as the names of the people in the word problem! It's always engaging to change the names to those of your very own students!

Can Anyone Use Depth and Complexity Frames?

Yes!! Although these lessons are designed for GATE students, I still use them with my "Non GATE" learners, and they really enjoy it. Use it as an opening to a lesson on place value to see what your kiddos already know, as part of an assessment, as a lesson, or you can even use this packet as part of a math center. Detailed instructions are included as well as answer keys.
