How can I use this place value packet?

  • Supplement your core curriculum
  • Reteach or review lesson
  • Small group intervention
  • Tutoring or homeschool

In this Place Value to 100,000 Review Packet students are asked to:

  • Give the place name or value of digits within a number
  • Write numbers in expanded form, word form, & standard form
  • Compare and order whole numbers
  • Round whole numbers to any place
  • Use place value relationships & base ten numbers (for example- What number is exactly 100 more than this number?  What number has a 5 that is worth 10 times more than the 5 in this number?)
  • All with 5-digit numbers!  Allowing students to build skill without the overwhelm!

It also aligns to Texas TEKS- 3.2A, 3.2B, 3.2C, & 3.2D.

This lesson is aligned to 4th grade common core standards 4.NBT.1, 4.NBT.2, and 4.NBT.3 as well as 3.NBT.1, however it modifies the standards to only include 5-digit numbers!

Do you find it challenging to fill in gaps from previous grade levels, maintain a high bar for the common core standards, and challenge your higher-skilled students?  This place value packet is designed to meet the needs of every student in your classroom, regardless of level.

What does Sally’s “gradual release model” entail?

  • Sally’s lessons follow an “I Do, We Do, You Do” format.  A math concept is introduced whole group, students then practice with a partner, and finish with independent work time.  This deliberate scaffolding keeps students from feeling defeated or frustrated!
  • Sally’s packets also build slowly in difficulty.  We meet students where they are, regardless of level.  As students gain confidence, the problems get progressively harder.  Not all students will complete all problems and that is by design!
  • Each packet finishes with a “Challenge Page” for anyone who needs something extra!  Multiple pages of practice are included in every lesson to avoid early finishers.

In addition to the deliberate scaffolding, these fraction line plot worksheets also include an instructional guide jam-packed with teaching hacks and best practices.  There is also a “Misconceptions” section that allows you to be one step ahead of mistakes students are most likely to make.

Met expectations
Great value
Standards-aligned
This recourse is a combo of review, independent, and assessment worksheets. I just kept giving them a practice sheet, corrected them in a different color and had them do another. A lot of them were getting the concept but not following the directions (word, expanded, and standard). After seeing there mistakes over and over they scored much higher on their assessment. I used this in 4th grade.?

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.
Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
