Students first choose their own poems and use a poetry template to analyze the poem's poetic devices and theme.

Next, they'll create a slide presentation featuring the title, poet, the lines of the poem, and images illustrating the poem’s meaning. A project model of an illustrated slide presentation is included featuring “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes!

Using the free Adobe Express site, students will upload their slide presentation and create a video of themselves reading their poems. Your students will love using images and voice inflection to reflect the meaning of their poems!

✅ Create and Illustrate an Identity Poetry Book

Express yourself with this fun, modern identity poetry project! Students will first write two Identity Poems based on three poetry writing templates. All options include student examples.

Using their poems to generate a word list, students create word clouds about themselves using the dynamic free Word Art website. The Word Art website works on any device and the included tutorial will guide students step-by-step!

Selecting a symbolic shape or personal photo, students create beautiful rich works of art providing a visual reflection of who they are!

As the final step, students create unique Identity Poetry books in slides using representative images, their identity poems, and their word art!

✅ Picture It! Poetry Writing Based on an Image
