Description

This step by step, discussion driven, no-prep notes and practice set that covers Point Slope Form is a great way to teach & introduce writing equations using the information that is given to your students. The first page of the notes is more instructional and goes over how to write an equation in point slope form and how to graph a line in point slope form with 2 examples to discuss together.  The second page can be used as independent practice or as guided practice, where students work independently, with a partner or within a small group. This set’s practice has 14 scaffolded problems.  There are multiple representations (tables, graphs and ordered pairs) where students write an equation in point slope form. There are also a couple questions to help identify parts of the graph from an equation before they practice graphing an equation from point slope form. Students and teachers love how easy these notes are to follow and understand.

These notes give a very structured procedural approach to linear equations.  The practice problems included are scaffolded so that they begin at more of an entry level difficulty and then progress into a deeper complexity to encourage problem solving and “productive struggle”.

Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from a description of a relationship or from two (𝘹, 𝘺) values, including reading these from a table or from a graph. Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models, and in terms of its graph or a table of values.
