Description
Around the World Scavenger Hunt: Polynomial Operations, Adding, Subtracting, and Multiplying Polynomials.
This high-energy, self-pacing activity is designed to get students moving while they master essential Polynomial Operations. Students travel from "state to state" around the room, solving problems involving the addition, subtraction, and multiplication of two polynomial expressions.
Activity Overview
Each "destination" poster features an Arriving Answer and a Next Challenge. To successfully navigate this world tour, students must correctly solve the problem at their current location to find their next flight destination.
Student Directions
- Departure: Start at any state poster located around the room.
- Navigate: Solve the Next Challenge problem on your current poster.
- Transit: Search the room for your result on a different poster under the Arriving Answer section.
- Travel: Move to that new state and repeat the process.
- Logbook: Record each state you visit in the correct order on your recording sheet.
- Arrival: You have completed the tour once you return to your starting state.
Skills Covered
This version of the activity focuses strictly on operations between two expressions to build foundational fluency:
- Addition & Subtraction: Combining like terms and distributing negative signs
- Multiplication: Applying the distributive property or FOIL method to binomials and trinomials.
- Standard Form: Organizing final answers by descending degree.
