Description
Do your students need motivation to master their basic addition and subtraction facts? This program is perfect for providing students with a FUN incentive to practice that fact fluency up to 20!
To get started, print off a class set of popcorn boxes to use as a classroom display or for students to keep in their math journals/notebooks. Then, give students the "Fast Fact" quizzes as often as you like throughout a particular unit, quarter/semester, or throughout the whole school year. Each time a student completes a quiz within one minute (or the time frame of your choice), they earn the corresponding popcorn piece to add to their box!
As students see their popcorn boxes begin to fill up, they can't WAIT to master all of their facts! It will only be a matter of time before you and your students are celebrating their success with a popcorn party!
I have also included an individual set of quizzes for both addition (+1 to +10) and subtraction (-0 to -10). Simply laminate each set and place on a ring for easy practice during centers, stations, or for early finishers!
The full components of Popcorn Math are:
- Directions for teacher use
- Bulletin board header/Poster for classroom display (two versions)
- Popcorn boxes for students (color & black/white versions)
- Popcorn pieces (0 through 10 for both addition & subtraction)
- "Fast Facts" quizzes (0 through 10 for both addition & subtraction)
- Tracking Sheets to easily track which students have successfully completed which quizzes
- Individual sets of quizzes for additional student practice
Each year I have used this program, my students beg for the next Fast Fact quiz!! Because the entire class is working towards a common reward, you will also see students quizzing, congratulating, and motivating each other throughout the entire process!
Enjoy!!

Popcorn Math
I am a retired second-grade teacher. I used this activity every day right after lunch. My students worked hard to learn their facts, and this activity helped them succeed. I highly recommend trying this with your students.
Well crafted
This helped my kindergartners get ready for first grade.
This resource was amazing. I would highly recommend this resource to others.
Great for fact fluency and student progress tracking!
My students enjoy practicing their math facts with this resource.
Love this resource. It helps me track each student's progress in a tactile way for them to see which addition and subtraction sets they have mastered.
We are using this resource to test at least once a week and then having a visual for the students to see how they are progressing.
Loved this! This was perfect for my class!! Thank you

CCSS1.OA.C.6
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
CCSS2.OA.B.2
Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
