This population migration activity focuses on the period in U.S. History, the Great Migration.

This lesson is appropriate for both Geography and U.S. History classes.

This lesson makes a great distance learning activity.

In this lesson students will:

  • Analyze why populations increase or decrease in various regions throughout the world.
  • Analyze the distribution of population patterns at various scales (i.e., local, state, country, region).
  • Analyze patterns of migration of various types (e.g., age, sex, ethnicity, race) in the community, state, and country.
  • Explain patterns of change over time in the community, the state, the United States, and the world.
  • Analyze how the historical context influenced the process or nature of the continuity or change that took place.

I love this activity as a quick way to knock out coverage of an important topic. I like to set up laptops and have the students complete it at stations for APUSH review!
