Description

Placing the correct sign before integers can be quite challenging for students. With this resource, your students will know the rule when working with the addition and subtraction of positive and negative integers.

The print-n-go sheets, 20 Scavenger Hunt Cards and 36 Scoot/Task cards will provide a thorough understanding of addition and subtraction of directed numbers.

The templates are designed to be kid-friendly featuring age-appropriate cool kids clip-art and pleasant-to-read font to motivate students. Material that could otherwise prove daunting is presented in a simple easy-to-understand way.

SECTIONS INCLUDED:

♦ Students Booklet Cover (x2) styles featuring a quote by Albert Einstein.

♦ Note page x 1 outlining rules of working with positive and negative integers.

♦ 30 problems (2 sheets) on addition and subtraction of directed numbers.

♦ 20 Scavenger Hunt Cards featuring Rockstar themed characters (color):

♦ Recording Sheets (x2) to use with Scavenger Hunt Cards.

♦ Answer Key (color and blackline) for Scavenger Hunt.

♦ 36 Task/Scoot Color Cards (x 6 pages) featuring Rockstar themed characters to

re-teach and review.

♦ 36 Task/Scoot Black and White Cards (x 6 pages) featuring Rockstar themed

characters to re-teach and review.

♦ Recording Sheets (x3) to use with Task/Scoot Cards.

♦ 1 blackline snapshot of all 36 Task/Scoot cards for students to glue in their

journals as reference.

SCAVENGER HUNT:

My students really enjoyed this activity – I’m sure your students will too! I cut out and laminated the twenty Scavenger Hunt Cards. I then tacked them to the wall with Plasti-Tac. Spread them out or hide them for more fun.

♦ Students may start with any card to begin with.

♦ They write the problem to solve on their recording sheets and look for the answer (top) on another card.

♦ The name of the picture of the card where the answer is found is written below the answer on the Recording Sheet.

♦ Students then solve the next question at the bottom of the card where they found the answer and look for the answer again on another card.

♦All questions are solved this way till the question of the last card loops back to the answer of the first card.

**Clear visual instructions further provided in file. The Scavenger Hunt is an effective way for students to check their working and arrive at the right answer in order to solve the next problem. Should they loop to the first card they started with before problems on all cards are solved, they may refer to the image on the answer key to see where they've gone wrong.

This would be an effective means to check and review as students solve the problems.

⇒ 36 Task Cards (also sold separately)

Use the 36 task cards to play a game of scoot. Instructions to play are included in file. Alternatively, place in a center to review or re-teach.

I am confident your students will have sound mathematical knowledge and understanding of Algebra: directed numbers (addition and subtraction) after completion of this unit. All the best for the academic year!
