Do your kids love reading picture books? Mine sure do!

This is a set of 2 STEM engineering challenges to go with the picture book, Potato Pants, by Laurie Keller. This is a hysterical book that kids absolutely love!

Can you create your own potato person with legs, arms, and a face?

Materials Needed: (per classroom)

- 1 potato per student (can be a fingerling potato or a normal sized potato)

- pipe cleaners in assorted colors

- yarn (for hair)

- google eyes

- any other art materials you may have on hand

Can you create a pair of pants for your potato person?

Materials Needed: (per classroom)

- 1 potato person per student (can be a fingerling potato or a normal sized potato)

- colored cardstock paper

- clear tape

- stapler

- markers and assorted art supplies (like stickers, yarn)

- scissors

This a really fun pair of STEM Challenges that gets kids working to complete a fun and difficult challenge, students must build a potato person and then create a pair of pants for their potato person! They have so much fun with these challenges! Who doesn't want to put a pair of pants on a potato?

We do these 2 challenges in one day!
