"My students love solving the mysteries involved in Whodunit activities. They find the puzzles engaging and as they work to solve the mysteries, they willingly complete math problems that might otherwise cause them to grumble. I love the ease of use and grading. "

Description

Engage students with pre-algebra Whodunnit activities that turn math review into an interactive mystery game. This printable and digital bundle is perfect for middle school test prep, stations, partner work, early finishers, enrichment, and reinforcing key pre-algebra skills.

Nothing like a good criminal investigation to liven up math class!

Based on my popular CSI projects, I have created Whodunnits. The Whodunnits plan to focus on single content topics as opposed to units and will focus more on skill building than application. Every day can't be a project day, so Whodunnits can be an engaging out-of-their-seat activity to practice important skills. Now they are bundled together!

In a Whodunnit?, students will work in teams to solve 10 practice problems that increase in difficulty. After each answer, they will receive a clue. Similar to the popular board game Clue, there will be a fictional "crime"; the goal will be to determine the "criminal", the scene of the crime, and the method. Scenes will be placed around the room, and the students will have at it.

An answer key has been added to the end of each file for your convenience.

I have used so many of the activities in this bundle! I love the option to print or provide to students digitally. It usually takes a little while to teach the concept of the Whodunnit activity, but once they understand the ultimate goal, they start to look forward to the days when they see a Whodunnit on the agenda.

It's unfortunate that all the stories and characters are the same. I bought a big bundle, and even though the students enjoy them, they are too redundant.

I used this activity for the end of the year summary. It was great. The students were engaged in trying to solve the riddle. I was hybrid teaching so I adapted the assignment to include a digital version and provided paper copies to student who didn't have access to technology.
