Description

Teach Cartesian Coordinates & Applications for Precalculus with ease using this no-prep (just download + print and go!) lesson.

Included in this product is a classroom presentation, guided/scaffolded notes for students, practice problems, and the most useful items: detailed keys to make grading easy on you!

The presentation goes slide by slide with guided notes that the students can use. Providing these notes as an option to students is a great way to differentiate your lesson plan.

Speaking of lesson plan - This lesson is aligned with a few different CCSS.

Common Core State Standards (CCSS):

HSG-GPE.B.4.: Use coordinates to prove simple geometric theorems algebraically.

HSG-GPE.B.7: Use coordinates to compute the perimeters of polygons and areas of triangles and rectangles using the distance formula.

HSG-GPE.B.8: Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two points in a coordinate system.

The presentation also includes objectives/goals/learning targets for the students (which you could add to your lesson plan easily!).

Meet the requirements of your administration easily with the included THREE lesson plans that are FULLY EDITABLE in a WORD DOC. This will allow you to tailor your lesson plan to what is expected by your administration! One of the lesson plans is 5E lesson plan.

The practice problems in the homework provided will challenge students and ensure they are mastering the topic! DOK questions from multiple choice, the plugging in a value, to applying the theorems in-depth with analysis skills.

Since this lesson is geared for PreCalculus students, it may be a little too challenging for Alebgra or Algebra 2 students.. but would be a great challenge if they are up for it!

Use coordinates to prove simple geometric theorems algebraically. For example, prove or disprove that a figure defined by four given points in the coordinate plane is a rectangle; prove or disprove that the point (1, √3) lies on the circle centered at the origin and containing the point (0, 2).
Use coordinates to compute perimeters of polygons and areas of triangles and rectangles, e.g., using the distance formula.
