Our Precise Word Choice lesson plan introduces students to precise word choice for use in their writing. Unfortunately, many students have become accustomed to using tired, worn-out words when communicating with others, whether when texting a friend or describing an experience. In this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively to complete an activity in which they use a thesaurus to find more precise replacements for a given set of words. Students are also asked to independently match less precise words to their more precise match, demonstrating understanding of the lesson.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to define word choice, use precise word choice, and identify the effective choice of words in text.
