Description

Are you interested in starting a math interactive notebook in your Pre-K or Kindergarten classroom? Well, this is for you!

This Interactive Math Notebook focuses on numbers 1-20. For each page, students will strengthen their fine motor skills, count with 1:1 correspondence and identify the number in multiple ways. Each number page in the journal is repetitive. You will need to assist students with the first couple numbers but after that this can be done independently during math centers.

How I utilize these in my Pre-K classroom:

We focus on a couple numbers each week during the school year. After I have introduced a number and we have worked on the number for at least a week, I include the journal page in math centers. Some years I have printed all the journal pages and bound the journal together and other years the pages were stored in the student's folder and bound together at the end. There are pros and cons to both ways.

How I utilized these in my Kindergarten classroom:

In Kinder, we reviewed numbers 1-20 the first two months of school. For some students this was not a review and they were learning numbers the first time. Each day I would introduce the number, we would count as a class with manipulatives, hash marks and a huge rekenrek. Doing this helped students gain number sense and I plan to incorporate this early on in my Pre-K classroom this year. We then completed the number page together on the floor. As soon as students were finished they began math centers.

This notebook is a wonderful way for students to track their own learning, a nice tool to show parents at conferences, and a great summary that they can keep and refer to at any time.
