Description

This is a math warm up activity designed to coincide with President's Day. However, it can be used any time by a teacher who would like to combine student's basic math skills with researching both familiar and less-famous names of U.S. presidents.

Each president is listed next to their numerical place. The equations are written using president names and solved the same way. For example, John Adams + Thomas Jefferson would correspond to 2 + 3. The final solution would be James Monroe, since he is the fifth president.

This was a really fun President's Day activity-math crossover! The kids had never heard of a lot of the less-memorable presidents, and I thought this was a good introduction to at least familiarize them with the names. They had a lot of fun figuring out the math puzzles. Several of them asked if there was another page they could do.
