Description

This activity was created for AP Environmental Science but can be a great resource to challenge students in lower levels!

Students are given an introduction into definitions and the equation for Net Primary Production. Using three drawings, they color in the details to visualize the overall process of these (sometimes) abstract numbers!

Next, students are tasked with calculations of the variables for different biomes which they will ultimately use to build two charts! Lastly, an analysis of the biomes and practice FRQ will have your students critically thinking about biodiversity and metabolic processes when it comes the primary production!

Included In This Product:

- 4 Page activity for students that covers calculations, a visualization of NPP, RL, and GPP, chart organization practice, analysis over biodiversity and metabolic processes when it comes to different biomes, and a practice FRQ at the end!

- Answer key for the teacher including possible answers for the FRQ

By the end of this activity, your students will have a good grasp on primary production and how it changes our living systems!

FRQ connection (graph & data provided on the activity):

1) Explain the graph above using the table. Apply your knowledge on metabolic

rates and dissolved oxygen to explain how they are affected by the depth of the

lake. How does depth change the NPP?

2) The graph above shows an average of NPP throughout year. How might the

graph change with the season?
