Keep students active, engaged, and accountable during group reading of new texts with rotating reading mats. Students take turns reading aloud and annotating for understanding.

Three mats are included:

• characterization, conflict, and key ideas
• figurative language, key ideas, and summarizing
• suspense, tone, and diction/word choice

Similar to Kagan Fan & Pick mats, place this mat at the center of the group of students. Students will be able to clearly see the role they have been assigned. After each paragraph (or agreed upon amount of text), students rotate the mat and begin with new roles. These are easy to print, laminate, and reuse many times over.
