Description

Probability and Statistics students will enjoy finding areas of indicated regions under the Standard Normal Curve with these fun and interactive digital Google Slides™ task cards! Google Slides can be used as a synchronous whole group activity in the classroom, while sharing your screen virtually, OR can be assigned to students to complete asynchronously from individual devices. Check out the preview to see a PDF preview of the Google Slides™ file (with key) that you will get access to upon purchasing this product (The purchased product will allow you to make a copy of the Google Slides™ directly into your personal Google™ account. I recommend that you keep one copy as a "Teacher Version" with the Solutions and make a separate copy as a "Student Version" that you delete the solutions and credits from before assigning. Students should complete the activity in edit mode so that they will be able to edit the slides with their answers and then share the activity back with you.)

Objective: Students will need access to a TI-84 calculator in order to complete this activity. Students will practice finding areas of indicated regions under the standard normal curve (the probability that the z-score will fall in the given region on the standard normal curve) with these task cards for Probability and Statistics. Students will  enter the lower bound of the region, the upper bound of the region, the mean (0), and the standard deviation (1) into the NormalCDF function on their TI-84  calculator: NormalCDF(lower, upper, 0, 1). When the lower bound is negative infinity, use -1*10^99 and when the upper bound is positive infinity, use 1*10^99. Students will use Drag and Drop functionality to build the NormalCDF calculator formula on the first few problems and then will advance to finding area/probability on their own.

What's included:

  • This purchase will allow you to copy this Google Slides™ activity to your personal Google™ drive, with editable directions, the solution key, and my terms of use.
  • Once you follow the instructions to add the activity to your Google™ drive account, you will have access to all 24 (including title page) digital task cards (plus solution slides and teacher instructions - 32 Slides total) in order to assign them to your students to complete on their devices or to use as a whole group activity in the classroom (or virtually).
  • Mini Lesson with relevant calculator formula and how to use the TI-84 calculator to complete the activity
  • Practice finding areas under the standard normal curve (probability that a z-score will fall in a given region of the curve) with the TI-84 calculator.
  • Some problems are given as images of the standard normal curve with the desired region shaded and labeled. Some problems are given in words. Left-tailed, Right-tailed, and Two-tailed problems are included.
  • Scaffolded Drag and Drop practice setting up the TI-84 calculator formula
  • The student directions are editable in case you want to give directions specific to your students!
