Description

PBL addresses 1.G.3
Learning teams are asked to partition 4 round pizzas and 4 rectangle pizzas so that all 17 students in the class can enjoy the pizza party they have earned from their principal.

Pizzas can only be partitioned into halves or fourths. Teams have to then evaluate a slice from the round pizza and a slice from the rectangle pizza to determine which slice they want to order.

Great idea for a partner or small group challenge as well. Students have to work together or independently to arrive at an answer.

Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.
