Description
Looking for problem solving activities for the beginning of the school year? This set of slides align with multiple CCS standards for first and second grades: 1.MD.C.4; 1.NBT.A.1; 1.OA.A.1; 1.OA.B.4; MP1; 2.NBT.B.5; 2.OA.A.1; 2.OA.B.2.
This is a 4 slide SAMPLE set of a much larger set of problem solving slides. These slides offer a great way to introduce Math Journals and problem solving strategies.
Click Here for the FULL 18 slide set!!
Slides focus on: (1 slide each included)
- counting,
- tallying,
- adding and subtracting one step word problems,
- focus given to writing an equation, using a symbol for
the unknown number.
I love to use these slides for whole group instruction. I display one slide at a time, read aloud the slide, and discuss strategies and/or tools that students could use to solve the problems. Some slides are for verbal review only, like the counting or tallying slides, which encourages critical thinking. Other slides will require students to think of strategies or methods to use to solve problems. Students should write an equation and use a symbol for the unknown number, as prompted on the slides. These slides can be printed, size reduced, and glued into math journals, allowing teachers to have a record of student work and problem solving ability.
