Problem Solving Rubric

Description

This rubric is great for problem solving modules. I used this when I gave my students extremely challenging math problems that required collaboration to solve. This is best used with students in middle school and high school. Students can assign themselves the following roles:

-Facilitator. Makes sure all group members are on task (no cell phones).

-Spokesperson. Gets input from group before asking teacher a question.

-Quality Control. Checks group’s answers to make sure it is accurate. Makes sure all work is shown.

-Process Analyst. Provides feedback on how group is working. Grades group at the end.

Students then give themselves a score at the end of the problem. I would review each one and give my own score and average the two. There are also Perseverance Bonus points that students can earn.

Lastly, students can put each other in the "slacker box" if they noticed a group member not contributing to the problem.

Absolutely love the problem solving rubric! It's a fantastic way to keep students engaged in tough math problems and help guide their thinking. I love the "slacker box" - it holds my students accountable and gets them pumped for challenging math problems.
