Solving word problems is essential. This twenty minute lesson is a simple introduction using six simple steps to solve a word problem with bar modeling. This lesson combines both problem solving and money. The concept of money is introduced in second grade and by using money in word problems can give students much needed practice. Solving word problems address the two mathematical practices of model with mathematics and making sense of problems.
