This seasonal fun math problem solving pack includes 18 problems presented as 9 differentiated problem-solving tasks-- just what you need to reinforce using a variety of problem-solving strategies and critical thinking skills to solve problems for students in grades 3 - 5.
What tasks are included?
- Look for a Pattern (includes 1A, 1B, and 1C)
- Use Logical Reasoning
- Use Objects or Write an Equation (includes 3A, 3B, and 3C)
- Make a Table or Organized List (includes 4A and 4B)
- Draw a Picture or Use a Model
- Guess and Check (includes 6A, 6B, and 6C)
- Use Objects or Write an Equation (includes 7A, 7B, and 7C)
- Make a Table or Guess and Check
- Work Backwards
What’s unique about this pack?
With the exception of a few tasks, each problem has similar problems labeled with an A, B, or C. The “A” problem type represents the easier/easiest problem of the group. The “B” problem type represents a more challenging task, and a “C” problem type is the most difficult task of the set.
This pack also includes a detailed answer key with sample solution strategies for each task.
How to Use this Resource in the Classroom
While there is not a specific strategy that must be used to solve each problem, there are strategies that would be considered more efficient than others. This is an excellent time for students to share their solution strategies with others and expand their problem-solving toolboxes.
