Description

Included in the Zip Folder:
PDF lesson plan and printables including
19 word problem comics for addition and subtraction

and Active board Notebook projectable of the comics.

Use this product 15-20 minutes a day in large group or small group or once a week throughout the year.

Children 3-7 years old can devour word problems if they are introduced to them in a visual way. Use these comics to expose them to the vocabulary of problematic situations, to help them visualize simple one-step word problems, and to engage them in a discussion using mathematical reasoning.

Used also as an intervention tool for children 7-9 this collection of comics can help students review word problems and provide teachers with a scaffolding tool for struggling students who are having trouble solving word problems on their own.

To challenge students compare and contrast the scenarios in the comics.

A few K Common Core standards that are covered are:
MGSEK.OA.1 Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images,
drawings , sounds (e.g., claps), acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or
equations.
MGSEK.OA.2 Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within 10, e.g., by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
MGSEK.CC.3 Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
MGSEK.CC.4 Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.

NCTM: Mathematical Practices 1 and 8 are evident in EVERY lesson
