Description

Strengthen your students’ problem-solving skills with this Strip Diagrams & Equations Mini-Bundle, a set of two activities designed to help students practice interpreting, creating, and connecting strip diagrams and multi-step equations.

What’s Included in the Mini-Bundle

1. Strip Diagrams & Equations Matching Activity

In this hands-on matching activity, students practice identifying the correct equation that matches each multi-step strip diagram.

What’s inside:

  • 24 strip diagram cards
  • 24 equation cards
  • 24 answer cards for self-checking or centers

Each page of diagrams and equations uses the same numbers, ensuring students focus on the operations of the problem, not just number matching.

Students can also match the answer cards if you want them to solve the missing number as part of the activity. This activity is great for math centers, small groups, intervention, or independent practice.

2. Strip Diagrams & Equations Task Cards

These 12 multi-step story problem task cards give students structured practice in creating their own strip diagrams and writing equations to represent word problems.

To support differentiation, the resource includes three recording sheets:

  • Recording Sheet A: Fully completed strip diagrams with a variable for the unknown.
  • Recording Sheet B: Pre-drawn strip diagrams with no values filled in.
  • Recording Sheet C: A blank template for students to design their own strip diagrams.

Each recording sheet also includes space for students to write an equation and record the final answer, making it easy to check their work.

This mini-bundle is ideal for teachers looking to reinforce multi-step word problems, visual models, and equation writing. Useful for math centers, small groups, test prep, and whole-class lessons!

I could not be more happy with this resource!!! I have been on the lookout for something different, yet rigorous to support my students learning for multi-step problems, especially representations. We have been visiting this all year and so we have gone through quite a few resources and this one is my favorite!

I enjoyed using this resource in my Math stations; however, I wish there were student instructions. Many of my students did not listen to my instructions. It'd be nice to redirect them to directions.
