Description
These are step by step instructions to help students become familiar with the basic programming language using the TI 84 Plus CE Graphing Calculator. These lessons also help students with basic math formulas. The TI 84 Plus CE uses TI Basic as its programming language.
This step by step lesson with photos and screenshots introduces programming on the TI 84 Plus CE by creating a simple Quadratic Formula Program. This lesson is suitable for grades 8-12.
There are only four lines to this Quadratic Formula Program.
This program works only when the roots of the quadratic equation are real numbers. Thus, no complex numbers (a+bi). But at the end of the lesson I show how to change the calculator’s mode to display complex numbers.
If the roots of the quadratic equation is a square root, the program will not display a square root (the program will calculate the square root and display as a decimal number).
