In this real world project based learning unit, you chance to open your very own neighborhood diner. You’ll have an opportunity to learn about opening a business, create your own menu, create your own signature float, advertise, and give back to the community.
There are some things you need to do so your diner will be a success. It will require you do do some research as you do your planning.
1. Learn about the history of diners
2. Photos of a visit to to different diners
3. Take a survey to learn about favorite comfort foods. Graph results
4. Create questions for business survey. Record results
5. Questions about starting an a diner
6. Choose a name, logo and slogan for your business.
7. Design a store front (use my template or design your own)
8. Create your own business plan (company overview)
9. Using Pic Collage to design a flyer
10. Interview an owner or manager of a diner.
11. Create a new float and describe it.
12. Steps in making a rootbeer float (Students can arrange cards in order in writing steps.
13. Calculate the nutritional value of your new creation
14. Design a flyer to advertise your diner. (This can be done on the computer or on a blank sheet of paper.) Make sure to include important info about your business.
15. Design business cards
16. Create coupons for your diner.
17. Diner-a-Gram
18. Plan a menu for your diner. – Students can even create their own design after using this template as a rough draft. (I have a sample menu)
19. Take orders from menu
20. Additional ideas
21. Giving Back to the community
22. Create an invitation for your grand opening
23. Creating a business plan (pdf)
