Description
Students thoroughly enjoy this activity as it utilizes both a real-life example and food! Students have fun learning about what scientists do in real life to determine population sizes and also simulating it with goldfish crackers. This document walks students through both the scientific process, as well as the simulation process. Students are asked to analyze the simulation, and answer a series of strategic questions.
This activity is cross-curricular, as it relates mathematics to biology, and also incorporates writing. It does a fantastic job at both introducing population genetics to students, and reinforcing the concept of proportions.
