Description

This no-prep fall pumpkin project is always a favorite in my first grade classroom around Halloween. The kids have fun customizing their autumn pumpkins, while practicing money and addition skills at the same time! Here’s how we use it:

Students use their planning pages to “shop” for the pieces they would like to use on their pumpkins. They will have to make sure they stick to their budget! You might want to even give the children pretend money to shop with. After choosing, they will then need to record and total their prices and decide if they will get back any change. Once they have their pieces picked out, then comes the fun part...Decorating with the pieces they've bought!

I've included 4 different versions in this set for use with different grade levels, or for differentiation within your classroom.

Included in this set you will find:

  • Teacher Activity Guide
  • Four differentiated planning pages with varying budgets (7 cents, 12 cents, 25 cents, and 1 dollar)
  • Pieces to cut out and glue onto pumpkin (eyes, noses, and mouths)
  • Blank pumpkin for decorating

Such a great way to tie in money in a fun activity! My students loved having to "buy" the pieces for their pumpkin. We used play money and I had the pieces pre-cut so the students were able to come to the store and figure out which ones they could afford. Also, love the differentiated options. Overall a fun activity that looked great displayed too!

So much fun for students to be able to purchase the items for their jack-o-lantern. Also very easy to differentiate for students.
