This is a fun engineering and design activity that is perfect for Halloween and Fall. Students will hear about a problem facing a local pumpkin patch. The farm has experienced a lot of wet weather and the pumpkins that are sitting on the ground are beginning to rot and be eaten by bugs. Students are challenged to design and build something that will raise pumpkins to help protect them. They will use the Engineering Design Process to plan, build, design, test, and modify their ideas. They will have constraints in the materials and the amounts of each material that they use. This purchase includes a presentation of the problem and of the different steps of the EDP students are going to use as they try to solve this pumpkin problem.
