Description

Introduce and practice using punctuation marks. This unit introduces the period, exclamation point, question mark, and comma with a focus on ending punctuation marks.

Scaffolded Practice

  • Students start off with a cut and paste activity. They will cut and paste each punctuation mark to the end of the correct sentence.
  • Students will then read sentences and circle the correct punctuation mark given all three choices.
  • Lastly, students will be given a sentence that is missing the ending punctuation, they will rewrite the sentence adding the correct punctuation mark to the end.

Ways to create/use the anchor chart:

  • Print as a large poster
  • Project on the board and trace onto anchor chart paper
  • Pull up on computer connected screen, turn off touchscreen function and trace onto anchor chart paper
  • Digitally display
