Description

This Quadratic Formula Activity introduces quadratic equations and parabolas. It has math worksheets for special education specifically designed for students with special learning needs, especially autism.

This unit introduces quadratic equations and their use in the real world. It was created using the extended content standards for high school math for students who take alternate assessments.

Students become familiar with the terms that make up the equation and how to interpret a basic parabola.

Students have many opportunities to engage in repeated information on these very abstract and challenging concepts, which helps them develop learning patterns.

In addition, many of the activities and assessments include more than one version, suggestions for differentiation, and options for presentation.

NOTE: This unit does NOT cover quadratic functions or how to solve them. It only focuses on the quadratic formula and its components and related graphs.

****This unit has digital versions of the printable activities.

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated into these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. Students with significant disabilities must get to experience material over several days to be able to assimilate what is being taught fully. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, if we can ask students good questions it will push them to think more deeply than before.

As always please take a moment to leave feedback or post any questions you may have. Remember, you will gain credit toward future purchases on tpt as you leave more and more feedback!!

I have purchased so many units from Special Needs for Special Kids. The instructional material made standards accessible for my high school learners. My students enjoy the recorded lessons because sometimes they just get tired of my voice and they felt they were getting to watch a movie instead of a regular lesson. I used this unit to help my class prepare for alternate state testing. It made a very complex subject easier to understand.

I used this unit to work with several of my students who are confined to the home with significant cognitive disabilities in various math special education classes It was fun, interactive, and easily adaptive for students who needed more or less prompting. I would NOT have survived the school year without all of these incredible activities, accessible both online and by printing. Thank you SNSK!!!!!

I used this to help my students who were quarantined get caught up with material they missed. I loved the entire slideshow only suggestion is taking the signature at the bottom left. I'll always give props when I use another educator's resource but some of my students caught on to the "Special needs" and didn't care for it.
