Description

As teachers we all encourage our students to read at home daily. But do they really? How can we hold them accountable? Here is an in-class reading game that is sure to motivate your students to read at home! READOPOLY is fashioned after the classic game Monopoly but with a reading twist! Students who meet their weekly reading goal will get to roll the die and see what interesting surprises await them as they move around the READOPOLY game board!

This file includes:
-- a description of the game
--ideas for game set up and management
--rules of play
--game board template
--sample chance and community cards
--blank chance and community cards
--monthly reading log sample to keep track of students reading

I have used this game for several years and I have found that student at-home reading participation has improved dramatically. I hope this can help you too!

Oh my goodness, this was such a welcomed change from our usual boring reading logs. Students really enjoyed meeting their reading goal each week and getting to take their turn on the Readopoly board! I printed, laminated (in 2 parts I think?) and mounted on the wall. Used 2 library book check-out pockets for the "Chance' and 'Community' cards, and got books for them to 'buy' with their money (they LOVED that part). They even earned a game day with the tokens. I highly recommend this game if you are looking for a fun way to motivate your students to read at home. Thank you so much!!
