RI.1 - Main Idea and Supporting Details

This Interactive Notebook Resource is full of dynamic activities for teaching the following standard: RI.2

These interactive notebook activities can be used with ANY curriculum or instructional program. Within this tool, you can find an OPTIONAL lesson plan with lesson slides included.

Please remember that this is a tool ideal for the start of a lesson/topic or as a review. It is a great way to help scaffold the skill of finding the main idea and details to students before diving into a text.

Here's a closer look at what's included in this 19-page resource:

1. Main Ideas/Supporting Details Interactive Notebook Pages

  • In this resource, you will find notebook pages students can glue in and write in. I have included a variety of pages that require students to write the whole page, fill in the blank, or have access to pre-filled pages.
  • A GREAT COLORING SHEET TOO!

2. Main Idea and Supporting Details Anchor Charts

  • This visual can help students, especially ELLs, understand the main idea and supporting details. It can help them grasp the concept. Have students glue these in OR use them as a whole group.

3. Handout Activity

  • You will find a handout activity for identifying the main idea and details in pictures in this resource. Students can work independently or as a group to complete this sheet. Use this sheet as a formative assessment to see where students stand in understanding the main idea and supporting details.

4. Follow Along-Slides

  • I have included slides to guide your lesson! These are optional for you to use. Students can also have a copy of these slides if you would like them to complete this lesson by themselves. Feel free to add videos/pictures to make these slides your own!!

5. 5-Es Lesson Plan

  • The optional lesson plan found in this tool is modeled after the 5-Es methods. The lesson is designed for students to engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate.
