Description

Students will (1) practice using the Rational Zero (Rational Root) Theorem to find all possible zeros/roots of a polynomial function and (2) use the theorem to help find the actual roots with this task card activity. This activity includes rational roots only!

This activity includes 24 cards: Cards 1-8 ask students to list all possible roots; Cards 9-12 ask students to determine and explain if a value could be a possible root; Cards 13-24 ask students to list all possible roots AND find the actual roots. Cards 13-20 are cubic functions and cards 21-24 are quartic functions. Students record their work and solutions on the included recording sheet.

Students can check their answers by scanning the QR code on each card. Connection to the internet is not required to scan the code, however, a QR scanner app is required on the device. There are several free apps available to download. Cards without QR codes also included should you wish not to use them.

This activity works very well in conjunction with my Pre-Calculus Polynomial and Rational Functions Unit.
