Description

Rational vs Irrational Task Cards (DISTANCE LEARNING COMPATIBLE):

  • PDF Copy
    • 20 Task Cards with Multiple Options for Directions
    • Place the Provided Rational/Irrational Signs on a Posterboard. Have students cut, sort, and paste the cards onto the posterboard. OR
    • Copy and Hand Out Provided Recording Sheet. Have students record the numbers on the cards in the correct columns.
    • Distribute using a program like Microsoft OneNote

  • Google Form Copy Link (Self-Grading)
    • Each card is in it's own section and after students chose Rational or Irrational, they must then chose why it falls into that category. Is it Rational because it's a whole number?
    • Note: Check the answer key, because some of these numbers technically fall into multiple categories (a fraction that when divided is actually a whole number). Make changes to your copy of the form that works best for you and your students.

  • TPT Digital Option: Answer Boxes on both sides of answer sheet for students to type the card numbers on either side.

My students loved these. I not only used them for stations but I used them to play around the world with my kids and they loved this. We ended the class period several times playing around the world. Even after completing this chapter.

Know that numbers that are not rational are called irrational. Understand informally that every number has a decimal expansion; for rational numbers show that the decimal expansion repeats eventually, and convert a decimal expansion which repeats eventually into a rational number.
