Description

Looking for a way to get your students out of their seats and engaged in the content? This scavenger hunt is just what you've been looking for to help students strengthen their skills with ratios, rates, and unit rates! Perfect for extra practice or a review before an assessment!

The questions included are meant to be posted around the room. Students will then start at a question, working either independently, with a partner, or with a group. Once the question has been answered, students will search the room for the answer, which will be on top of one of the other question sheets. Students will continue to answer questions in this fashion until they are back to the question that they started with, thus completing the circuit. This activity promotes fantastic self-checking skills, since students are required to answer each question accurately to advance through the scavenger hunt.

This scavenger hunt contains 16 questions in which students will be asked to recall key vocabulary related to ratios and rates, write ratios using pictures, graphs and tables, calculate unit rates, and find equivalent ratios and rates. Word problems are included, as well, to help students connect the skills to real life.

Also included is a Student Worksheet so that students may record their answers during the scavenger hunt and show their work.

My students love scavenger hunts. This one was just what we needed to prepare for our summative assessment. It covered almost everything aspect of the summative and made it fun for my students.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. For example, “The ratio of wings to beaks in the bird house at the zoo was 2:1, because for every 2 wings there was 1 beak.” “For every vote candidate A received, candidate C received nearly three votes.”
Understand the concept of a unit rate 𝘢/𝘣 associated with a ratio 𝘢:𝘣 with 𝘣 ≠ 0, and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship. For example, “This recipe has a ratio of 3 cups of flour to 4 cups of sugar, so there is 3/4 cup of flour for each cup of sugar.” “We paid $75 for 15 hamburgers, which is a rate of $5 per hamburger.”
Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations.
