Description

Looking for a fun and engaging worksheet for your 6th graders to practice higher level problems on ratios and rates? This Self Checking Ratios and Rates Scavenger Hunt will keep your students engaged as they hunt for their answers around the sheet and eventually loop back to the first problem. The students will know they've completed the problems correctly because they can find the answer somewhere else on the page. After completing the last problem, the final answer will be back in the first box.

Use this review sheet after teaching lessons on ratios, rates, unit prices, unit rates, and comparing rates. This activity is self-checking, so it can be done as an independent task, math station, or be assigned as homework.

Prefer student movement? Cut the boxes on the worksheet apart and spread them around the room. Students can travel around the classroom looking for answers and finding their next problem.

Product is a pdf file that includes:

  • 12 higher level problems on ratios & rates
  • Answer Key

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. For example, “The ratio of wings to beaks in the bird house at the zoo was 2:1, because for every 2 wings there was 1 beak.” “For every vote candidate A received, candidate C received nearly three votes.”
Understand the concept of a unit rate 𝘢/𝘣 associated with a ratio 𝘢:𝘣 with 𝘣 ≠ 0, and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship. For example, “This recipe has a ratio of 3 cups of flour to 4 cups of sugar, so there is 3/4 cup of flour for each cup of sugar.” “We paid $75 for 15 hamburgers, which is a rate of $5 per hamburger.”
Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations.
