What others say

"My 5th-grade students liked to use the bingo cards to read different types of books. It is also a great way to keep track of what they are reading. I liked that each card could be customized based on my students' needs, or I could change them to add something I specifically want to target."

Description

Why use Reading Bingo Cards in the library? Let's face it: many middle school students are reluctant to read across a variety of genres. This set of 6 library book bingo cards is a gamefied library reading challenge. It encourages students to try new books, authors, formats, and genres.

Click the PREVIEW button above for a visual description of what's included.

FAST FACTS ABOUT THESE READING BINGO CARDS:

  • Recommended for: Grades 5-8 libraries and ELA classrooms
  • Formats: PowerPoint, PDF, and Google Slides
  • Editable: YES, everything is editable
  • You will also need: printer paper or cardstock (white or rainbow colors)

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL GET:

  • 2 sets of 6 Library Reading Bingo cards
  • 1 color set - use for demonstration lessons or display on a monitor
  • 1 black and white set - print on colored paper or cardstock
  • 3 editable formats: PPT, Google Slides, and PDF
  • detailed instructions with ideas for prizes when students complete a row or a card.

THE PREFILLED READING BINGO SQUARES:

  • 16 squares per card
  • 96 different categories across the six cards
  • includes a wide variety of authors, genres, and book formats for Grades 5-8
  • 100% editable

HOW DOES LIBRARY READING BINGO WORK?

  • Start with the red Library Reading Bingo card. When a student finishes the red card, they "level up" to the next card (orange).

  • To complete a card, students select books from any one row (4 books). They can also read from the four corners. This means they have read four books.

  • Each Library Reading Bingo card has 11 possible book row options, allowing every card to be differentiated to suit different reading preferences/abilities.

  • Students can complete more than one row on the same card if they choose. I like to just require one row or the four corners because I like the students to have many options to choose from.

  • Students get a small prize and/or recognition for completing a row or four corners on their card. I have listed some inexpensive and free ideas for prizes in the Reading Bingo card directions.

I love that this is editable to fit the needs of my students! It is also a great way to encourage reading (or reading more than just graphic novels). When students get a bingo on their card, they can pick something from the prize basket, which that love. Awesome resource for classes that hate reading!
