Reading comprehension - reading comprehension for kindergarten

Kindergarten comprehension: Comprehension for Kindergarten: Differentiated Writing Prompts (2nd Edition) focus on fluency and comprehension.

Comprehension skills are developed with practice and repetition of interpreting both text and picture. This file helps students develop comprehension skills by both reading and interpreting given pictures as well as their own drawing.

This file is the second part of our original Comprehension for Kindergarten: Differentiated Writing Prompts.

Children are given opportunities to strengthen fluency by reading and checking for meaning. If children are reading fluently, then they are understanding what they are reading.

Kindergarten students will find this activity easier to do as they are in sequential order. This pragmatic approach is highly important for emergent readers and writers.

The file is differentiated as there are two styles of printables that teach one concept. You will be able to better cater for the various levels of readers in your class.

What do students do?

~ Children read the title and the first sentence.

~ They either color or draw a picture that matches the first sentence.

~ Students then write their own sentence that matches the text and picture, thus showing understanding of both text and pictures.

~ Children then read everything back three times.

~ Students then check off each step and that they have read the sentences three times.

See the images for the titles.

What else does the file include?

How to page.

~ Contents page.

~ 30 passages for set one (set with images to color).

~ 30 passages for set two (set with no images for children to draw).

~ One page of high frequency word (writing helpers) using Pre-Primer and Primer words (great for writing folders or notebooks).

~ Class assessment tracking page (for teachers).

~ Individual assessment page (for teachers).

~ Student Self Assessment page.

Great product! I like the two sets that make it easier in the beginning to focus on the picture then adding the difficulty of making your own picture!
