I have always introduced the process of asking and answering questions by showing my class the "wh" brothers. Be sure to introduce them as two young boys (brothers) who are very curious and are always asking questions like: who, when, when, where, and why. Eventually, the kids begin to use this strategy of asking the "WH" brother questions to themselves while they read a book.

I also made the stories easy enough to read so that the kids can actually point to, underline, or circle the answer in the story. This teaches kids NOT to guess since the answer will be in the story.
