Reading Goals! "I can" statements
These reading goals align with the common core standards and the Next Generation Learning Standards in ELA (NYS).
The 9 goals are organized in a rubric.
✪They are reading comprehension goals for reading literature and non-fiction texts.
✪The goals are meant to be student friendly and clearly worded. They will align with your New York State Standards and Common Core Standards nicely.
✪There are 4 versions of the rubric. I added a 4,3,2,1 rating on one of them so it will align with your grading if you use this 4 point scale. I have also included a teacher checklist to help with your planning. You can easily jot down lessons you teach that align to a particular goal. This is a great way to be sure you’ve hit all the “big stuff” before the test or before the end of the year. I have also included a “in my own words” rubric. This is useful when introducing the rubric. Kids can translate the goals into their own words so they are clear on the expectations.
