UPDATE - Now with a DECODABLE READER version of most stories included. The rest to be updated asap. Want to save time and teach reading comprehension and STEM together? I developed this program to simplify my planning. With Reading Comprehension STEM, you'll have a full year of lessons that'll keep your students engaged and inspire them to learn more. Easy to prep, and developmentally sequential, this bundle provides reading, writing, and STEM lessons for grades 1-3. Connecting STEM and ELA lessons increases student interest and deepens understanding.

We know you're a busy teacher, who has a lot of prep already, and you don't have the time to create a fancy makerspace or purchase expensive supplies. That's one of the best parts of Reading Comprehension STEM. Once you have assembled the little readers, the prep is easy and quick. You can complete all the STEM challenges using recyclables and other odds and ends from home. There’s even an editable letter to parents that you can send home, asking for supplies. Here's a link to a blog post I did on how I set them up in my classroom. STEAM STORIES set up.

Every year when I teach this I find my students get attached to each weekly character. Every week they are excited to find out who the story is about and how they get to read, write, problem-solve, and create art about these characters. This is highly motivating for young children and makes reading comprehension easier to teach.

STEM and ELA are sometimes difficult to combine. This package has it all. This comprehensive package will help you teach Reading, Writing, and Speaking skills as well as Science Technology, Engineering, and Math. Many people claim they are selling a STEM package when in fact they are simply selling a Science Lesson. This package has my personal guarantee that it not only contains all parts of the STEAM acronym, (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) but that there is an emphasis on the problem-solving part.

I wanted to love this more than I did. The stories weren't as engaging as I had hoped, but I love the concept and think it's still a good resource.

Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
Analyze how and why individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.
Model with mathematics. Mathematically proficient students can apply the mathematics they know to solve problems arising in everyday life, society, and the workplace. In early grades, this might be as simple as writing an addition equation to describe a situation. In middle grades, a student might apply proportional reasoning to plan a school event or analyze a problem in the community. By high school, a student might use geometry to solve a design problem or use a function to describe how one quantity of interest depends on another. Mathematically proficient students who can apply what they know are comfortable making assumptions and approximations to simplify a complicated situation, realizing that these may need revision later. They are able to identify important quantities in a practical situation and map their relationships using such tools as diagrams, two-way tables, graphs, flowcharts and formulas. They can analyze those relationships mathematically to draw conclusions. They routinely interpret their mathematical results in the context of the situation and reflect on whether the results make sense, possibly improving the model if it has not served its purpose.
