"OMG this resource is slowly building my students confidence while reading fluently! I’ve been looking for break downs of sentences that were repetitive and I’ve finally found them! Thanks!!!"

Description

Fluency phrasing task cards build students' reading fluency through repeated readings in phrases that gradually build in complexity. This enables students to build their automaticity, expression, prosody and overall oral reading fluency skills. I use these Fluency Task Cards as center activity for students to work on independently. Both phrasing and repeated readings are proven fluency strategies and these task cards intentionally focus on these two strategies.

HOW THEY WORK?

This is similar, just more complex, to fluency pyramid activities. Students draw a card and read the top phrase. The next line repeats the top phrase and adds an additional phrase. The third line repeats the top two and then adds an additional phrase. The pattern then continues with students practicing their phrasing and expression.

With 120 cards in a variety of first-person and third person narratives, as well as non-fiction topics, these cards are sure to build your students' fluency and vocabulary.

The cards are best introduced as a whole group, but then are fantastic for independent practice during small group instruction, word work, or centers.

I use this as a warm up when students come to me for small groups. They have hard text and easier text to read. It meets all learners.
