Description

With this activity, children will be able to observe characteristics of many different kind of bugs while practicing the following skills:

Comparing and contrasting sizes, colors, shapes of bugs.

Hand eye coordination: placing bugs on corresponding area/space.

Language: being able to describe what they see and the differences between each set. Key words: Large, medium, small. Use this time to ask questions and converse about what they see, where they think each set goes and what they know about each bug.

Letter/Word recognition with the words "Large, Medium, Small".

Math: counting the number of bugs/sets completed.

Science: Identification of bugs and individual features using these real life images.

Letters are in Capital format following the Handwriting without Tears approach for emerging writing and literature.

How to use:

Print and laminate whichever format you'd like to use. There is individual pages and then the combined boxes page. Cut out individual bugs and laminate. Cut again.

Set up invitation by placing the Large, Medium, Small pages on a table and the bugs. This can be an individual activity or you could divide the bugs into 4 sets for four children at a time. Invite them to compare and place the corresponding bug into the appropriate space.

As an open invitation, add books on bugs, more pictures, or magnifying glasses for them to pay more attention to details on the images.

Most importantly, Have fun!
