This is a GREAT activity to discuss the definitions of each type of number in the Real Number System and help students classify numbers individually or in a group/station. The vocabulary used is: Real number, whole number, natural number, integer, rational number and irrational number.

CCSS 8.NS.A.1

This activity includes the following:

  • Definition note sheet for students
  • Definition note sheet KEY
  • 20 different sheets of classifying numbers
  • 20 color coded sheets for a KEY on each problem

I also included an additional sheet that uses the helpful quote:

"Simplify before you classify"

I have used this helpful reminder in my classroom for the last 20 years! If you continue to use the phrase, you will begin to hear the students using it!
